Replacing a row of teeth with dental implants

If you have a lot of teeth missing, you might assume that in order to replace them, you need an individual dental implant to take the place of each natural tooth you lost. This is not the case at all. This would be a very costly and invasive way of doing things. It will put a lot of pressure and weight on your jaw when it’s simply not necessary.

The best way to replace a row of missing teeth is by using a dental bridge. The bridge will bridge the gap from one side of your remaining natural teeth, to the other. Fitted onto the bridge will be a number of natural-looking crowns. It is held in place with a dental implant at either end, meaning only two implants are necessary to hold a bridge safely and securely in the mouth.

How are dental implants fitted?

Dental implants are fitted directly into the jaw. For this to be successful, the jawbone must be of a high enough quality. The titanium root of the implant will integrate with the bone giving you an extremely secure anchor.

An abutment will then be added to the implant root in order for the crown to be added to the top, firstly a temporary one; just until the osseointegration has been successful, and then a permanent one.

With your bridge in place, both the prosthetic teeth attached to it and the dental implants at either end of it will look like natural teeth. You won’t appear to have teeth missing anymore and your smile confidence should be restored.

Restoring teeth to an entire mouth

To give you a complete set of working dentures, you can get away with as few as just 4 to 6 dental implants, but in order to make sure that is the case and provide you with a bespoke treatment plan has been designed with your individual mouth in mind, we would like to invite you to a consultation with our dentist here at the Lion Dental Centre in Stourbridge.

We’ll be able to assess how damaged your jaw has been, should you have been involved in an accident or injured yourself as a cause of your tooth loss, as well as decide whether any bone grafting work prior to fitting your dental implants will be required.
