How does Botox work?

Botox is widely believed to be one of the most effective ways to alter your appearance for the better without surgery. Used by celebrities all over the world to maintain their youthful looks, Botox, which is how the neurotoxic protein, Botulinum toxin, is often referred to, is the main ingredient of anti-wrinkle injections.

Contrary to popular belief, it is suitable for men and women, providing a natural-looking rejuvenation in both genders. Since the Millennium, the number of men opting for Botox treatment has risen by over 300%.

What does Botox treat?

It is used cosmetically to reduce the lines that run horizontally across the forehead, the lines that run vertically between the eyebrows, known as frown lines, and the crow’s feet which appear to the side of the eyes. A smile with aesthetically too much gum on display and eyebrows that are drooping with age can also be altered to improve your facial appearance.

Additionally, Botox has medical use. It is said to be very effective in reducing pain in migraine sufferers, providing relief to people who live with debilitating spasms and helping those with hyperhidrosis live a more normal life.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating. It’s very embarrassing for those affected, as it means sufferers are frequently wet and pungent. Multiple changes of clothes throughout the day may be required and those with it may be asked frequently if they’re hot or overweight. However, superfluous perspiration is caused by overactive sweat glands. Botox injected into key areas, such as the armpits and the palms of the hands can greatly reduce sweat production.

How does Botox work?

Primarily used to smooth wrinkles located on the upper face, it is injected under the skin to stop muscle movements. Nerve signals to the muscles are blocked, an action that effectively prevents muscles from contracting, but only temporarily. If muscles are restricted, wrinkles can be prevented from developing and even forming in the first place.

If you’re looking to turn back the clock by a few years and refresh your appearance, Botox is a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment. It can take under 15 minutes and requires no downtime. You could have the procedure in your lunch break and return to work. There will be no visible scars, as are inevitable with surgery, but you will need to book yourself in for a top up every 3 to 4 months in order to maintain your new look.

Expect your friends and family to comment that you look ‘rested’ and ‘less tired’.
