If you suffer from periodontal (gum) disease this will be diagnosed by your dentist or hygienist. Your hygienist can often successfully treat the disease for you. Gum disease is common especially in smokers, the elderly and people with poor oral hygiene, however, if you don’t tick any of those boxes, but have been told you have it, it may be down to genetics. Gum disease should be treated immediately to reduce the side effects, after the diagnosis, the dentist will advise you of the best course of action. If hygiene cleaning is not having the desired results we work alongside Periodontal Specialist Dr Mario Veltri. He has helped many of our patients restore their gum health through vigorous cleaning treatment.
Treatment with Mario involves ‘root planning’, utilizing a fine scaler tip being used to remove the bacteria that is found deep into the gum and along with the roots of the teeth. Treatment is much more thorough and takes much longer than a normal hygienist clean. A local anaesthetic will often be used. A typical appointment will last 1hr and 30 minutes.
Mario is very thorough and offers excellent service to all of his patients. An assessment with Mario lasts for approximately 1 hour and is £95.00. This includes x-rays and gum measurements and records to assess your gum health in full.

Periodontitis is inflammation of the gums and the supporting structures of the teeth.
Periodontitis always begins with inflammation of the gums, known as gingivitis. One of the first signs is bleeding from the gums when you brush your teeth. The gums may also look red and swollen.
If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss and other health complications. Gum disease has been linked to heart problems, diabetes and strokes.
At our dentist in Stourbridge, you will be given local anaesthetic to make the cleaning process more comfortable. It can be sore after the procedure for 24-48 hours. Normal painkillers should ease this.
