Our Dentists Answer Your Treatment Questions

Woman with Invisalign clear braces in Stourbridge smiling

We’re proud to offer so many fantastic tooth treatments here at our Stourbridge dental practice, based in the West Midlands. Part of the process with any patient – whether new or existing – is to give a good run-through about all the elements of your treatment. That way, there are no surprises, and no anxiety, either!

In this post, our Stourbridge dentists share some answers to common treatment questions, covering everything from Invisalign braces to dental implants.

Invisalign braces

1) Can I damage my new clear braces?

Yes, it’s possible to damage the clear aligners, for instance crunching on hard foods while wearing them, dropping them, or accidentally standing on them. Our Dentists’ advice is to take them out while eating (and absolutely no chewing gum) and to store them in their given case when not being worn.

2) Are they really invisible?

Almost! They’re clear braces, which means they’re among the most discreet orthodontic treatments available on the market. Some of the eagle-eyed among us might notice, but they may not be noticeable in photos, for example.

3) Can my teeth move after treatment?

It’s possible for this to happen following any kind of orthodontic treatment. And, of course, it’s possible that in the future you may need an extraction or other type of work carried out. However, we do our best to minimise this by offering retainers at the end of the treatment, which should help keep your teeth in their new positions.

Dental implants

1) Does dental implant treatment hurt?

Dental implants in Stourbridge involve a very minimal kind of oral surgery, so you can expect there to be some slight discomfort and mild pain after treatment. It’s the reason we may recommend over-the-counter painkillers to you after the procedure. The healing process only takes a few months, and then you’ll be ready for your new crown.

2) How long do dental implants last?

They could last a lifetime – provided you care for them properly, have regular check-ups, and undergo treatment at a reputable dental practice, such as ours here in Stourbridge.

3) If I’ve had dental problems, can I still have treatment?

Our Dentists would really need to see you for a consultation to advise on this. However, it’s safe to say that if you have gum disease or bone loss, the treatment may not be possible.

Teeth whitening

1) What treatment system do you use?

We use Zoom whitening, which we can do at our dental practice or at home. Teeth whitening treatment can boost your smile by up to 8 shades and it could last a lifetime.

2) Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

This can happen in the short term, but our treatments are much safer and more powerful than anything you can find on the high street – plus, you have the support of expert dentists at each stage.

3) Does whitening work on smoking stains?

Again, a consultation can help guide you on this, but we often recommend teeth whitening for those who have smoking stains.
